A much bigger home for the library

PlumNet now has a dedicated storage platform with room to grow far beyond the original server.

  • New

Added a dedicated Dell storage server and PowerVault expansion shelf with approximately 22 TiB of usable capacity.

  • Protected

Built the storage array with dual-drive RAID6 protection and a ready hot spare so one failed disk can be replaced automatically while a second failure remains covered.

  • Improved

Connected both PowerVault power supplies for normal cooling, quieter operation, and redundant enclosure power.

  • Protected

Kept the original media library unchanged throughout the transfer and retained it as a rollback copy after the verified final cutover.

TrueNAS storage services

The new capacity is organized and shared through a purpose-built storage operating system.

  • New

Deployed TrueNAS Community Edition on the storage server and created a dedicated PlumNet data area for the family library.

  • New

Prepared both NFS access for the media applications and SMB access for normal file sharing.

  • Protected

Aligned ownership and permissions before migration so the existing media services can keep their familiar paths after cutover.

  • Verified

Completed the reversible final sync, service stop, storage switch, validation, and rollback-safe migration sequence.

Remote hardware management

The new server can be observed and supported remotely from its earliest boot messages.

  • Improved

Updated the server's remote-management firmware and restored its network configuration after the upgrade.

  • New

Added a modern-browser console for watching startup, storage-controller, firmware, boot-device, and operating-system messages.

  • Protected

Created a dedicated least-privilege console account that can view and operate the remote screen without receiving server-control or administration rights.

  • Protected

Exported and cleared the inherited hardware logs so future alerts begin from a clean and useful baseline.

PlumStream organization and comfort

The library is easier to browse, and long-running background sounds behave better on televisions.

  • New

Added the official TMDb Box Sets integration and automatically organized the existing movie library into 21 collections.

  • Improved

Converted White Noise, Brown Noise, and Gentle Thunderstorm into 24-hour black-screen videos so television clients stay in an active playback session.

  • Protected

Pinned the collection deployment by checksum and kept separate configuration, database, and media-generation recovery paths.

Smarter library care

Maintenance decisions now use better watch history and remain review-driven.

  • Improved

Updated Maintainerr and corrected its last-played logic so recently watched titles no longer appear as stale by mistake.

  • Protected

Kept the recurring Leaving Soon policy review-only with automatic deletion disabled.

  • Improved

Completed one owner-approved cleanup that reclaimed 455 GiB and verified the selected titles disappeared cleanly from the library, request history, and storage.

Family experience and reliability

A focused quality pass corrected small inconsistencies across the family and owner experiences.

  • Fixed

Corrected PlumHome's time-based greeting so it no longer produces a browser hydration mismatch across time zones.

  • Fixed

Replaced a misleading all-finished download message with a neutral reconnecting state whenever live queue details are unavailable.

  • Fixed

Repaired PlumHome support links, refreshed its installed-app icons, and made PlumStream's wordmark persist through web-client replacement.

  • Improved

Brought PlumRMM and PlumIT Status into the warm PlumNet visual system while preserving their private administrative workflows.

  • Improved

Refined keyboard focus and mobile-menu behavior on the family website and rechecked narrow and desktop layouts.

Migration and validation

The live library moved safely, with the old storage preserved as an independent recovery path.

  • Verified

Completed the full media transfer and final delta sync, then reconciled the source and destination before cutover.

  • Verified

Moved the media applications to TrueNAS, restored every expected container, and confirmed real PlumStream playback from the new storage.

  • Protected

Retained the original storage unchanged during the rollback window while the new RAID array completes its background initialization.

  • Protected

Keep the storage-network move as a separate future change so addressing and switch configuration do not complicate the active data migration.
